Thalassery, also known as Tellicherry, is a serene city on the Malabar Coast of Kerala, in South India. It falls within the district of Kannur. History:
The British came to Kerala in the sixteenth century and that is evident in the local architecture here. There are ancient churches that speak of the 16th century architecture.
The British had built a seaport in Thalassery through which a variety of spices such as pepper and cardamom were exported. As this place was located on the coast, it was a major commercial centre during the British rule of India. It was during the British rule, the Malayalam name Thalassery was anglicised into Tellicherry.
The maximum temperature here is 25 Degrees C and the minimum drops to 17 Degrees C. The weather is pleasant, as it is in the rest of Kerala. You can visit Thalassery any time of the year. Because of its proximity to the sea, it is slightly humid.

•Thalassery Fort: It was in 1708 that the British had built the Thalassery Fort by the sea to protect and control the spice trade from the town. The square fort, with its massive walls, secret tunnels to the sea and intricately carved huge doors, is an imposing structure. The fort was once the guard of Thalassery's trade and commercial development. It is visited by the tourists as a historical monument. •Overbury's Folly: It is located on a hill near Thalassery District Court and is adjacent to a park. It slopes down from the sub-collector's bungalow to the rocks below and is named after its builder, E. N. Overbury, a British local judge at Thalassery in the 1870s. He had wanted to construct a picnic spot at the cliff. He couldn't complete it, but the spot later earned the name "Overbury's Folly". In recent times, it has been renovated and redecorated as a tourist attraction. It is frequented by local people in the evenings as a place to relax. A seaside open-air coffee shop has also been opened on the folly.
Kannur: Thalassery lies in the district of Kannur which has the distinction of being the most urban district in Kerala.
Payyambalam Beach: It is the beach of the Kannur town. It has an unbroken coastline of a few kilometres. The beach has a beautiful garden that has the landscaped sculpture of mother and child.
Valapattanam: It is a small town in Kannur district, and lies at a distance of about 7 kms from the main town city. It is about 7 km from Kannur. The famous Muthappan temple is located on the bank of Valapattanam River.
