Ranganthitoo Bird Sanctuary is an excellent picnic rendezvous. An island created by river Cauvery near Srirangapatnam on the Bangalore – Mysore highway in the state of Karnataka in India, is the nesting and breeding place for various migratory species of birds from all over the world. It is a perfect feast for the eyes, especially for those who love watching birds careening and floating in the air with their natural grace and poise.
Ranger-guided boat tours of the isles are available throughout the day and are a good way to watch birds, crocodiles, otters and bats. The best time to visit this Bird Sanctuary is during the months of July - September. The best time to watch migratory birds is in December.
Accommodation is available at Ranganthitoo in the form of three Riverside Cottages. However, most tourists prefer to stay at Mysore which is nearby.
