NubraValley lies in the old Silk Route from South to Central Asia. Traders and their caravans used to traverse this route from areas in Ladakh and Kashmir to Central Asia. This region is fed by two rivers, one is Shyok and other one is Nubra. NubraValley is situated about 150 km north of Leh.. The common way to access this valley is to travel over the Khardung La from Leh where one will first encounter the ShyokValley. To enter the Nubra valley, one must cross over the ShyokRiver via a small bridge and pass through a military checkpoint. Non-locals require an "Inner Line" permit (easily obtained in Leh town) to pass. The Nubra valley contains the small towns of Sumur and Panamik. Sumur has a Buddhist gompa or monastery while Panamik is noted for its hot springsThough the valley looks parched at first sight, it is one of the most fertile regions in Ladakh where farmers grow apples, apricots and barley. The main attractions of the valley are the sand dunes, the Bactrian camels and the monasteries. Visitors can also enjoy a 2 hr camel safari from Deskit to Hundar. Source: wikipedia
