Kota is a district and a city in the southeastern region of Rajasthan. It has recently emerged as one of the major educational centers in India. In fact, it is sometimes referred to as the Educational City of India. This place has a unique identity as an ancient place that catered to the pilgrims and now is a booming industrial center.
History:
Kota is a part of the southeastern region of Rajasthan. It was Rao Deva, Hada chief, who founded this region in the 12th century. In the 17th century, the Mugal emperors ruled this region. That is why one can see the best of the cultures and traditions bringing out the themes of architecture. This is what makes Kota so intriguing. It has witnessed the grace and valor of the Rajputs and the Mugals.
The maximum temperature here is around 40 Degrees C and the minimum drops to 9 Degrees C. The best time to be here is between November and February. Kota faces extreme summer. It is advisable to wear loose cotton clothes during the summer.
The Indian Rupee (INR) is the acceptable form of currency here. There are many banks that change cash and travellers cheques like the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur. and the State Bank of India. Numerous ATM's can be found all over the city and can be traced with the help of locals. Credit and Debit cards will be accepted at larger merchant locations and hotels.

By Air: For domestic travelers, Kota has an airport. The Kota airport is connected to Jaipur, which is in turn, is linked to major cities like, Delhi, and Mumbai. The nearest international airport is at Jaipur.
By Road : Kota is well connected by roads to the major National Highways. From Udaipur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bundi, Jodhpur and Jaipur, there are regular buses that operate to Kota.
By Train: Kota is a major railway station and lot of north bound trains halt here. Kota lies on the Mumbai-Delhi train route hence many important trains pass through Kota .
Chambal Garden: This is the major attraction in Kota. It is a beautifully landscaped garden and its greenery makes it popula among the tourists and the natives. Maharao Madho Singh Museum: This museum has a superb collection of Rajput miniature paintings of the Kota school. It also houses some of the most delicate, and exquisite sculptures.
The Government Museum: This is housed in the Brijvilas Palace. It displays a rich collection of rare coins, ancient manuscripts and beautiful sculptures.
Jag Mandir: This temple is right in the middle of the artificial lake of Kishore Sagar that was constructed in 1346 AD by Prince Dher Deh of Bund. The azure waters around the red-sandstone monument enhance the feeling of mysticism. Kota Barrage: This place is actually a part of the irrigation canal system on the Chambal River. The serenity of this place makes it an ideal location to see the sun-sets and for evening outings.
Chambal River Boat trip: The boat trip starting from Chambal Garden gives you a chance to view the beautiful lush green vegetation, and spot some birds and crocodiles.
Shopping: The most famous and sought after shopping item in Kota is the Kota Doria saris. Kota saris are finely weaved with cotton and silk threads.
