Kohima Market, Kohima

Introduction

Kohima is the hilly capital of India's north eastern border state of Nagaland which shares its borders with Burma. Kohima is so called because "Kew Hi" is the name of a plant grown on the mountainside. "Kew Hi Ma" means "the men of the land where the flower Kew Hi grows". Earlier, Kohima was known as "Thigoma". The specialty of this market is the vibrancy with which both the buyers and the sellers grace the market spot. This market is known for the freshness of its various displays and commodities all over the region. One can find any thing in this market at an affordable price. The market place is colorful with a variety of fresh fruits, fish and vegetables.

'Kohima village' called Bara Basti or large village, the largest village in Asia, forms the northeastern part of Kohima urban. Set amidst the states of Nagaland, Assam and Mizoram, Manipur is truly a traveler's paradise. It is predominantly a hill state with patches of plain and watered by the rivers Imphal, Iril, Thoubal, Irang and Barak, all of which flow from north to south.
