The Jaswant Thada is architectural landmark found in Jodhpur. The beautiful monument is built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. These stones are extremely thin and polished so that they emit a warm glow when the sun's rays touch across their surface. Within this cenotaph, there are also two more tombs. The Jaswant Thada is a traditional cremation ground of Jodhpur rulers. The grounds are also comprised of exquisitely carved gazebos, a beautiful multi-tiered garden, and a small lake. Because of its magnificent and grand style of architecture, it has become one of the prime attractions in Jodhpur.
The main cenotaph is decorated with ornamented sculptures, friezes, domes and pillars. One would be able to marvel at the separate section of cenotaphs dedicated to the braves queens and concubines who committed sati (self immolation) on the pyre of Jaswant Singh. Figures of dancing girls adorn the pillars of this section and speak a lot about the artistic genius of the sculptors who worked on it.
The beautiful portraits that adorn the interiors of the place make for a pretty picture. Relive the grandeur of Rajasthan's history and marvel at the spirit of sacrifice and bravery that drove the brave people of the land. The lattice work on display at the Jaswant Thada is another attraction of this wonderful monument.
On the way down from the fort, on left is Jaswant Thada, the graceful marble cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The main memorial has been built like a temple with intricately carved marble stone that is sculpted by the genius artesian. A visit to this structure is through the rocky hills giving it a secluded and an over whelming mysticism.
