Deshnok is a small town about 30 kms away from Bikaner and is famous for its peculiar KarniMataTemple. The 600-year-old Hindu temple is dedicated to Karni Mata who is believed to be a incarnation of Hindu goddess Durga. The huge silver gates to the temple, and the marble carvings were a donation of Maharaja Ganga Singh. The peculiarity of this temple is that thousands of rats are worshipped here and it is considered auspicious if the rats scamper over your feet.
Devotees offer milk, grains and sweets to these rats and it is considered auspicious if you sight a white mouse in the temple. The temple is open to visitors from 4 am to 10 pm everyday. . The drive to Deshnok from Bikaner takes about 40 mins and hourly buses are available. Taxis are also easily available.
