Deeg is an ancient town in the district of Bharatpur and was the 18th century capital of the Jat rulers and the summer resort of the royal family of Bharatpur.
Deeg is known for its forts and palaces, beautiful Mughal gardens and a colourful bazaar. The Fort and the DeegPalace are striking examples of the architectural styles of the Jats. A large number of tourists visit Deeg during the three day festival held in the month of September when all the forts come alive with dance, music and other festivities.Deeg has many magnificent palaces; the most famous among them is "Sawan-Bhadon". The palace has a hollow ceiling with rolling iron spheres in it; when water is made to flow into the ceiling, these spheres collide with each other and produce a sound like raining clouds. Deeg is an excellent destination for an excursion from Bharatpur. It is situated about 32 kms from Bharatpur and regular buses and taxis are available from Bharatpur.
Tourist Attractions
The DeegPalace is the main attraction of the town. The palace is a blend of the Mughal and Rajput architectural styles. The palace has a reservoir and two pavilions, the Govind Bhavan and the Kishan Bhavan.
DeegMuseum: A major portion of the DeegMuseum is housed in the Gopal Bhavan, the largest building in the Deeg Palace Complex. The collection in the museum includes a large number of items like Persian Carpets, Crockery, furniture etc.
