Daman is a small coastal town adjoining Maharashtra and is situated about 100 kms from Surat. Known for its placid blue seas and Portuguese style of architecture, Daman is a popular getaway from Surat. Daman is also visited by a lot of local tourists from nearby areas who come here to drink and relax by the beach since alcohol is prohibited in Gujarat. The DamanGangaRiver divides the town into two sections. The hotels and restaurants are located in the northern part known as Nani Daman whereas the southern part known as the Moti Daman is home to churches and government buildings.

The beaches in Daman are rocky and not fit for swimming though you can stroll by the Devka beach and the beach at Jampore and enjoy the easy going ambience.
Avoid going to Daman during the festive season when it gets crowded by locals from nearby areas. Daman can be reached by taking a train to Vapi. Vapi about 10 kms from Daman is the nearest railway station. Taxis are easily available from the station to Daman. (20 mins).
