Chapora Beach, Goa

Introduction

Chapora Beach is on beach in North Goa that has managed to perfectly combine its traditional boat building and fishing heritage with the introduction and growth of tourism. Chapora fort on Chapora beach was built by the Adil Shah of Bijapur on the southern headland of the Chapora River. It was also known as "Shahpur".

Compared to other Northern Goan beaches, Chapora is well populated by tourists from around the world..Being only a short distance from Vagator, Anjuna and the ferry crossing at Siolim, Chapora enables visitors to get virtually anywhere in Goa without too much traveling trouble.

Chapora is a fishing village. So a large number of fishermen in their traditional attire can be seen. Anyone patient enough to listen to the numerous stories of the sea, they have plenty of them. Colorful women can be seen haggling and hocking fish by the roadside

Chapora Beach is counted amongst the most popular as well as the most visited beaches of Goa. It is situated at a distance of approximately 10 km from Mapusa. One of the major attractions of the beach is its boat building and fishing legacy, which seems to be perfectly merged with its booming tourism industry. Walking down the main street of the beach, one can see as many traditional buildings as the contemporary restaurants, bars and stores. This is what makes Chapora Beach different and more attractive than the other beaches of Goa.

Cuisine is a big attraction in all areas of Goa, Chapora being no exception. Seafood and spicy dishes are the order of the day and there are numerous restaurants and cafes in the area that serve western dishes, vegetarian dishes, Chinese dishes and many more meals for those who want a change. The drinks are also very good in the area and as well as the almost obligatory cold beer and local beverages a couple of the cafes serve fresh fruit milkshakes that are incredibly refreshing, especially after a curry.

The guesthouses situated nearby solve the problem of accommodation also There is not too much of choice for staying at Chapora except a few guesthouses, or houses on rent. During the peak tourist season, one might find trouble finding an accommodation here, and so, at that time, Calangute and Baga can be a better bet
