Chail is a small hill station located south of Shimla. Created as the summer capital of the Patiala state, Chail is known for its scenic beauty. Surrounded by verdant deodar and pine forests , the hills resort is built on three hills and is ideal for hiking. You could try some of the other leisure activities like angling and horse riding or just wander around the beautiful hillside. The cricket ground here is one of the world's highest cricket grounds. Chail has a pleasant climate all round the year but the best months to visit are in summers (late April-July) and post monsoons (September-November).
Chail Wildlife Sanctuary, Sidh Baba Ka Mandir, Maharaja's Palace, Cricket Ground and the Palace Hotel are the main tourist attractions here.
You can also hike to the ChoorPeak and go fishing at the Gaura on the GiriRiver. Chail is also ideal for excursions to Sadhupul and Kufri. Sadhupul is a small village near Chail and is a popular picnic spot. Kufri is another hill resort ideal for an excursion from Chail.
Chail is well connected by road. From Shimla via Kufri the distance is 45 km and via Kandaghat is 61 km. Regular buses are easily available from Shimla, Chandigarh and Delhi.
