This long narrow palm- fringed island is easily accessible from the mainland. Bolghatty Island also known as Ponjikara is one of the islands that makes up the city of Kochi, Kerala, India. The island is a popular tourist haunt and houses the Bolghatty Palace. The palace was built by the Dutch in 1744 during their reign of the Kingdom of Kochi. It became the seal of the British Resident later. In 1976 the palace was converted into a hotel, managed by the Kerala State Tourism Department. The island has a golf course. The hotel also has boating facility. Bolghatty Island has a local name Mulavukad. This island is on the western side of Ernakulam. The greenery set amid the green blue waters off the Kerala Coast is not less than the sight of heaven. One can find all the modern amenities here and yet the serenity of this place is still untouched. The beauty of the island is in its simplicity and serenity. The palace itself is a stamp of regality. The fusion of Dutch and Portuguese style of architecture capped with the British effect is breath taking.
