Bangaram, Lakshadweep Islands

Introduction

Bangaram is a tiny teardrop shaped island, which lies very close to Agatti and Kavaratti. The tourist resort on this island provides an amazing opportunity for guests to unwind from the pressures and tensions of modern life. Two small islands of Thinnakara and Parali also lie close to Bangaram enclosed by the same lagoon. The wealth of coral formation (incl black coral) attracts a variety of tropical fish-angel, clown, butterfly, surgeon, sweet lip, snappers and groupers. There are also manta and sting rays, harmless sharks and green and hawk bill turtles. During the night, phosphorescent plankton washed ashore on the coral sands impart a bluish glow to the beach, which is totally enchanting.

 

How to get there:

Tourists can either avail of the boat transfer or helicopter transfer from Agatti.

 

Permits: Indian nationals as well as foreigners need to obtain a permit to visit Bangaram.

What to eat: The chef in the resort serves all cuisines. He is more than happy to cook any fish which you might have caught yourself, and in a variety of ways. The atmosphere is informal, and in the evenings a barbecue is often lit on the beach and dinner served outside. It is also the only place which boasts about a beach bar. Liquor is not allowed on other islands since majority of the people being Muslim.

 

Shopping:

There is just a small shop inside the resort that only provides with only basic necessities like soaps, shampoos, and mosquito repellents. It is advised that one carries all other items such as conditioners, sun blocks and moisturizers.

Kadamat: The Island is 8 Km in length, 550 meters wide at its broadest point and covers an area of around 3.20 sq Km.Kadamat offers to you stretches of white sandy beaches and exceptional Scuba diving facilities. It is an ideal place to swim with warm clear blue water. If you somehow miss the sunrise, do not forget to witness the sun setting behind the horizon. It lasts a little more than an hour curtaining the sky in a myriad of unbelievable hues. 

History:

Systematic habitation of the island started in the 19th century. The inhabitants had to put up a struggle to free themselves from certain social and economic disabilities. Amine landlords claimed the entire land as their property.
